Use of Our Buildings
The Burlington Friends Meeting is located in Burlington at 173
North Prospect Street, near the University of Vermont and
UVM Medical Center. Our Meeting House and adjacent Bassett House
are accessible by the Burlington bus system. Our buildings are simple
and beautiful, surrounded by an acre of gardens and trees. They have
several attractive rooms suitable for a variety of events.
The property includes two structures built in 1850. What had been a
carriage barn is now our Meeting House, which is
fully handicapped-accessible. It features a naturally lit open space
with comfortable chairs for 60. The entry area has a sliding wall that
can subdivide it into two spaces. The entry also has a hospitality
center with sink, microwave, mini-fridge, dishwasher, and coffee and tea
service. There are two restrooms, one of which is accessible.
The Bassett House was originally the home of Mary
Martha Fletcher, for whom Burlington's library (and previously, its hospital) is named.
It features a full community kitchen, an intimate wood-paneled library
that can accommodate 8-12 people, two spacious meeting rooms, one of
which is large enough for 30-40 people, and 2 restrooms, one of which is
fully accessible.
We just completed many improvements to the Bassett House to make it
accessible. We've added new meeting spaces and bathrooms and fully
renovated the kitchen.
You can use our buildings for a range of events:
Weddings
Our Meeting House seats up to 80 and is the perfect location
for an intimate wedding. Seat guests indoors or use our beautiful lawns
as the setting for your special day.
Meetings and Workshops
We offer several meeting spaces that
seat from 5 to 50 people comfortably. Each building has smaller rooms
that can be used for break-out sessions. Do you need a quiet retreat
in a centrally located space? Check out our spaces.
Receptions and Memorial Gatherings
The Meeting House is a light-filled room, ideal for your event. True
to Quaker values, the room is uncluttered; walls are simple, white and
undecorated. The many old windows, with views of beautiful gardens and
mature trees, create a setting that allows your guests to focus on the
intentions for your gathering.
Kitchen
Our newly renovated kitchen in the Bassett House is perfect for
hosting a shared meal, a party, or a community potluck. Do you and
some friends and neighbors want to do some serious food preservation?
Come to see this wonderful space.
